LAST J.M. MORRIS STAGE PROJECT WAS ON AUGUST 21 & 22, 2009 @ HIGHWAYS WITH ANTWONE FISHER & TINA ANDREWS
The last stage project for J.M. Morris was “Creative Provocateurs, Vol. 1” at Highways Performance Space on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, 2009 starting at 8:30 pm. Joining her with their new stage projects were award-winning writers, Antwone Fisher (“Antwone Fisher”) and Tina Andrews (“Sally Hemings: An American Scandal”). On Friday, August 21st were the performances of Andrews’ piece, “Charlotte Sophia” starring Meta Golding of TNT’s new series, “Dark Blue,” and Morris’ “Uh-Uh!: Part 1.” On Saturday, August 22nd were the performances of Antwone’s “Finding Fish” starring Keith David & Isaiah Washington, and Morris’ “Uh-Uh!: Part 2.” Both evenings were also dedicated to the memory of award-winning writer/playwright, Judi Ann Mason.
THE LOCATION
Highways Performance Space is located at 1651 18th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404 in the 18th Street Arts Center (off the corner of Olympic Blvd. and 18th Street).

As an invited artist at Santa Monica’s revered Highways Performance Space, Morris has written and produced several plays that satirically and dramatically address pop culture, socio-political and human rights issues with a multi-cultural cast. “Creative Provocateurs, Vol. 1″ will be her seventh. Past performers in Morris projects at Highways have ranged from actress and renowned spoken word artist, Mayda del Valle (Tony-winning “Def Poetry Jam”) to Independent Spirit Award Nominee, Haaz Sleiman (“The Visitor”) to acclaimed actress, April Grace (“Day One,” “Magnolia”). The lead director of her plays is award-winning independent filmmaker, Charles Burnett. Guest directors include, actor-director, Judith Scott and filmmaker, Darin Kuhlmann. Her producing partner is John E. Sampson III.
